Wednesday Word: Caruncle

Caruncle - noun.

Here's not quite another farmyard word! Carcuncle has a few definitions.

It can mean any kind of fleshy growth on the body. Or, it can refer to a bump on a seed (specifically, the hilum, which sounds like another 1word1day entry!).

The most illustrative example is the fleshy growth on some turkeys, ducks and other birds. In this photo, 1 and 4 are caruncles. The others are: 2. Snood, 3. Wattle (dewlap) and 5. Beard
