Wednesday word: Haboob

Hello. :-) I've been invited by theidolhands to be the new Wednesday wordsmith, so here we go!

Haboob: [huh-boob]

Noun:
 1. A thick and intense sandstorm or dust storm that occurs in desert regions all over the world. The walls of dust kicked up in a haboob can be up to 62 miles wide (100 km) and several miles in elevation by winds from 22-62 mph (35-100 km/h). They are extremely dangerous.

Origin: From the Arabic word habūb meaning "blowing furiously."  Originated in Sudan.

The word is not so commonly used in America except specifically in the southwest where they are most likely to actually occur.... we tend to stick with "dust storm." But haboob is much more fun to say, don't you think?
