stochasticity [stuh-KAS-tis-i-tee]

the quality of lacking any predictable order or plan; randomness

Greek stokhastikos, from stokhastēs ("diviner"), from stokhazesthai ("to guess at"), from stokhos ("aim, goal")

Mr Simmons usually followed the lesson plan, but when one of his fourth grade students expressed special interest in an unrelated topic, he couldn't resist veering off the allotted schedule to explore this exciting new subject. Surely a little stochasticity wouldn't hurt anybody!
