Monday word: rowen

rowen (roun), noun
The second crop of hay in a season; the aftermath.

'Aftermath' (consequence; results of an event) originally meant 'a second crop of grass after the first had been harvested', where 'math' came from Old English mæð, a mowing or cutting of grass.

'Rowen' comes from Old French 'regain', where 'gain' is 'profit from agriculture'.
The English word 'gain' (increase in wealth or resources) shares the same basic origin.
