Mrs. Toste really wanted to recommend her student Emily for the study abroad program but ultimately felt that although Emily's ability in French was very good, she displayed too much levity in class to be able to make the most of such an opportunity. Instead, she nominated Tara, a student whose skill was not particularly good but was a consistently hard worker whose seriousness for the subject was obviously apparent.
